All of our rattan outdoor furniture is, as the name suggests, designed to be left outdoors all year round and still look good as new every summer. Many customers ask us if they need a garden furniture cover to protect their furniture and the answer depends on how the furniture is used.
The rattan frame of the furniture can be left outside in all weather: extreme heat, sun light, rain, snow, frost….the best that the UK weather has to throw at it! The rattan made from PE resin which is a synthetic material which is resistant to UV damage and temperature changes. At the end of winter you just have to brush off any dirt and leaves that gather over winter and use a damp sponge to clean off any tough dirt or bird mess.
You may want to put a garden furniture cover over the rattan during the winter to prevent any dirt building up but it’s not necessary. During winter when there is heavy rain and the air is damp we strongly advise storing the cushions somewhere dry as they are not water proof. The material for the cushions is splash proof against any small spills but it won’t last long in really wet weather as the shape retaining foam will soak up and the moisture and is then vulnerable to mould is not dried out quickly.
We recommend that our customers buy a garden furniture cover for during the summer when you don’t want to keep taking the cushions on and off at the start and the end of the day but you’re only 80% sure it won’t rain. The garden furniture cover will protect the cushions from light summer showers so you don’t have to rush home from work as soon as you see a few dark clouds looming overhead.
